Position Summary
The Sr. Accountant will be a strategic partner within the finance department and contribute to process improvements, implementing internal controls to ensure accurate monthly financial reporting. They will assist in the preparation of the financial statements, conduct audits of internal operations, manage the general ledger, perform and review month-end closing activities and other related responsibilities. This individual will support and work directly with the Controller and CFO for day-to-day operations.
Sr. Accountant critical responsibilities:
- Performs end-to-end accounting and research accounting inaccuracies for compliance.
- Extensive working knowledge of GAAP to include deferred schedules, depreciation, amortization, and all aspects of fixed asset accounting.
- Support and work closely with the Controller and CFO and act as back-up for the Controller when required.
- Collaborates with the Controller to identify and develop cross departmental procedures to increase efficiency within the organization.
- Supports the preparation of monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements. Audits for accuracy and ensures GAAP are followed.
- Manage all aspects of the general ledger to confirm the ledger data is accurate completing account analysis and reconciliation process.
- Applies critical thinking to ensure invoices are coded correctly, new vendor and customer account set-ups.
- Reconciles semi-monthly payroll and multiple labor allocations to multiple companies.
- Review payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and audits to ensure payments are applied to the appropriate accounts.
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform year end audit.
- Collaborates with vendors to maintain accounting software systems; recommends updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications of a strong candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
- 8 years of end-to-end accounting experience with 4 years in a senior level accounting position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge and proven experience of GAAP.
- Experience in project or cost accounting is preferred.
- Ability to apply strategic and critical thinking while adhering to accepted accounting principles.
- Proficient with Microsoft Excel to include advanced functions such as, VLOOK UP and pivot tables to manage large quantities of data.
- Thrives in a fast-paced work environment which includes working independently as well as in a team environment.
