The Virginia Eye Institute is hiring! VEI is a large and dynamic practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists in the Richmond, VA area, including seven locations and an ambulatory surgery center. We are looking for a Coding & Billing Auditor– Ophthalmic/Optometry to join our team!
Duties and responsibilities
Provide live training sessions with new providers as part of the onboarding process to educate on billing, coding, and compliance topics
Act as primary point of contact for coding inquiries from providers
Work closely with Revenue Cycle billing group to identify opportunities for additional education of providers and staff to maximize revenue capture while maintaining compliance with regulations
Conduct routine chart reviews/audits to assess coding patterns and provide organized feedback to providers and leadership
Trend coding opportunities and provide executive leadership with monthly summaries
Assist in determining appropriate actions for coding-related denials
Work closely with Revenue Cycle leadership to refine billing processes related to coding opportunities
Skills and Abilities
Thorough understanding of optometry and ophthalmology coding, billing, and associated regulations
In depth understanding of medical charting and impact on coding requirements
Ability to convey detailed regulatory concepts into digestible training for clinical providers
Demonstrated ability to work independently and handle changing priorities
Extensive knowledge of payor coding requirement for billing optometry and ophthalmology
Ability to analyze large data sets to determine prioritization of focus and impact. Convey results in clearly summarized reports
Education
Coding certification required with focus in optometry/ophthalmology
Preferred advanced certification in coding and revenue cycle/billing with focus in optometry/ophthalmology
Experience
A minimum of 4 years optometry / ophthalmology coding experience required
2 years experience in a training or advisory role related to medical chart review and coding
Ability to understand and explain complex coding situations and regulatory implications
