The Virginia Farm Bureau Fellowship is an opportunity for students to learn more about a variety of careers in one of the family of Farm Bureau companies. The program attempts to match fellows with compatible assignments according to background, interests, and future goals.
Virginia Farm Bureau is not just for farmers. We support all Virginians through multiple lines of business, from local agents; deals and savings on shopping, travel and farm equipment; along with lobbying, advocating and educating on behalf of Virginia agriculture. Our organization has many facets including for profit and not for profit companies. Come intern with a company with great brand recognition that supports Virginia’s local communities and families.
In the summer of 2025, we will have fellowship opportunities available for students to apply for in the following areas : Political Action, Agriculture Association Administration, and Business Operations. The group of fellows will also be collectively involved in a community service project and participate in learning opportunities to better understand all career opportunities within the Farm Bureau family of companies.
Business Operations
Fellows will work with multiple departments within our insurance company. They will observe investigations, negotiations, evaluations, inspections, getting first-hard experience in risk management, problem-solving, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. They will be exposed to working with local sales agents and glean from their expertise in supporting all Virginians through the provisions of auto, home, farm insurance, and more.
Agriculture Association Management
Fellows will work on a variety of projects in the nonprofit part of the organization. These projects can range from policy / issue research, to promoting or developing member benefit campaigns to assisting with farmer applications for grants, to supporting events and initiatives for our Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers programs and other governance support projects.
Political Action
Fellows will be assisting with Virginia AgPAC (political action committee) activities, which include assisting staff with logistics of setting up interviews between farmer members and candidates running for office, following up with candidates for state offices with written and verbal reminders regarding interviews and developing custom interview packets to help volunteer leaders make endorsement decisions about candidates running for office. This fellow will also help organize meetings between urban candidates / legislators and farmers.
Minimum Skills / Qualifications :
- Must be a rising college junior or senior
- Must live near or be willing to relocate to the Richmond area for the duration of the fellowship
- Established customer service skills
- Dependable
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
- High level of initiative / motivation
- Excellent attention to detail and time management
