Essential Duties and Qualifications
Virginia Pharmaceutical Services, LLC, is looking for a Part Time, Licensed Pharmacy Technician for our Newport News, VA office! The hours will be Monday-Friday, from 11am-3pm.
You will provide much-needed care to those in skilled nursing facilities, and assisted living communities, as VPS long-term care pharmacy services provider, you have the chance to provide compassionate, supportive care to patients throughout the continuum of care. We are looking for a dependable Pharmacy Technician that will process, fill prescriptions and provide excellent support to our nursing staff. You will also undertake other tasks under the direction of a pharmacist to provide excellent customer service. As a pharmacy technician you must be detail-oriented and reliable since this job comes with high responsibilities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates the ability to competently work in general and specialized areas of pharmacy practice.
- Assist in filling, processing, and dispensing of all medications to the facilities, through a variety of processes such as Med-cart refill, stat box, emergency boxes maintenance, and others under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Policies and procedures are followed consistently.
- Assisting the department in maintenance all drug storage areas.
- Receiving and storing drug products.
- Sort, stock, label medication and monitor inventory.
- Ensures adequate inventory are available for continuous patient care.
- Triages and escalates any questions or issues outside the pharmacy technician scope of practice to the pharmacist or supervisor as needed.
- Follow HIPAA guidelines while processing patient information.
- Ensures quality assurance is maintained according to departmental and legal requirements.
- Operates pharmacy equipment appropriately.
- Sanitize surfaces and equipment before any preparation and when pharmacy opens.
- Process prescriptions electronically and ensure all information is complete and accurate.
- Accurately and efficiently prepare prescription orders.
- Resolve issues when they arise (e.g. rejected insurance claims).
- Undertake administrative tasks (e.g. record-keeping) as assigned.
- Comply with all security measures and quality standards.
- Providing quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers.
- Record keeping and appropriate handling of controlled substances.
- Prepare and package medications requiring special handling in accordance with safety measures, to include preparing compounds, and accurately re-packaging and labeling medications
- Check for expiration dates on medications on a regular basis and remove expired medications from Inventory.
- In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.
