The Patient Account Representative - Charge Review is responsible for frequent review of charges in the appropriate Charge Work Queues, to ensure accuracy and timely release of charges, in a manner consistent with Virginia Heart’s mission of excellence in cardiovascular care.

Roles and Responsibilities :

  • Responsible for understanding the requirements of various insurance carriers regarding prior authorizations and / or referrals.
  • Responsible for Nuclear / PET / CT report review to assign / verify accurate charging.
  • Regular communication with Manager of Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiovascular PET / CT regarding study reports.
  • Responsible for updating all Nuclear and PET / CT charges as needed, to ensure accuracy and prompt payment.
  • Responsible for assisting in other Charge work queues as needed, to help meet department deadlines.
  • Responsible for timely review and working of claims in assigned Follow Up work queues.
  • Appeal denials via website portal, telephone, or correspondence.
  • Communicates with patients / families regarding coverage and payment issues.
  • Assist with Customer Service phone queue as needed.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and maintains excellent communication in all interactions with payers, patients, vendors, and fellow employees to create a positive experience.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Manager, Assistant Manager or Team Lead.
  • Skill Requirements and Qualifications :

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 CM coding criteria and guidelines preferred (cardiology preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required.
  • EPIC experience preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-year direct experience in healthcare billing (office, hospital, or physician practice) required.
  • Knowledge of third-party payers required.
  • Must possess the ability to work under pressure and communicate with Manager, Assistant Manager or Team Lead about changes or concerns.
  • Must possess excellent time management abilities and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Precision and accuracy in work is required.
