Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisor
Job Purpose:
Supervise the daily operations of the Virginia Horse Center Foundation (VHCF) by working closely with key collaborators. The Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisor directs and supervises employees engaged in the daily maintenance and beautification of the facility grounds. ensuring that the facilities are manicured for shows and customer needs.
The Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisor directs, supervises, and maximizes the efforts of the entire Grounds/Barn crew to ensure compliance with all standards of customer satisfaction, cleanliness, productivity, and efficiency.
The Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisor supports the Operations Manager to ensure that facilities at the Virginia Horse Center meet expectations daily
Each of the Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisors will be key in decision making when the Operations Manager is unavailable.

Minimum Skills:
- Excellent communication skills and customer service experience
- Strong organization skills
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds (hay and shavings orders)
- Ability to operate large equipment
Preferred Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Driver’s License
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as Skid steer or tractor, backhoe, and mowing equipment
- Experience operating handheld equipment such as blowers, weed eaters, etc.
Key Areas of Responsibility - Barn Crew
- Oversee and participate in the removal of trash in and around the barns
- Oversee and participate in cleaning stalls and wash racks
- Oversee and participate in delivering shavings and hay to the barns
- Communicate with Horse Show managers to ensure all needs are metfor the setup and break down of show equipment.
- Ability to operate all equipment (i.e., skid steer, and tractors) to keep the rings in good working condition for each horse show.
- Knowledge of safety regulations for large equipment operation and adequate training for barn crew workers.
- Ability to set up equipment (jumps, fence rails, sound equipment) that the show managers will need for their show.
Key Areas of Responsibility – Grounds
- Plan, schedule and record all ground maintenance efforts including: mowing, fertilization, pruning, spraying and equipment preventive maintenance.
- Golf Cart maintenance
- Maintain accurate records in Basecamp for chemical use and maintenance work performed including mowing, seeding, fertilization, aeration and pesticide use.
- Implement landscaping plans including grading, planting, pruning.
- Ensure that all grounds care is performed with all safety and applicable regulations taken into consideration.
- Inspect all grounds care operations to ensure quality control.
- Manage care and maintenance of all plantings and landscaping.
- Provide and maintain proper trash disposal containers and keep all properties free of litter. Provide and maintain outdoor seating venues.
- Make recommendations regarding long-term care of equipment and preventive maintenance.
- Conduct inspection of facilities, ensuring compliance with safety, sanitation, and operating standards, and initiate corrective action when necessary.
- Performs daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Monitors vehicle performance, fluid levels, and mechanical fitness. Work with the maintenance team to ensure preventative maintenance as well as timely and efficient repairs so vehicles will always be ready for use when needed
- Recommend equipment and landscaping changes to the Operations Manager.
- Operate and perform maintenance checks on lawn mowing equipment.
- Operate and perform maintenance checks on large equipment to include bucket truck, skid steer, tractor, backhoe, and trash truck
- Key Areas of Responsibility – Other
- Serve as one of the primary point persons within the organization for all issues related to barn and grounds maintenance.
- Work with members of the Horse Center’s staff and/or outside contractors on the health, and well-being of the Center.
- Each of the Barn Crew/Grounds Supervisors will work closely together to plan improvement projects and help the Operations Manager monitor expenditures.
- Maintain a safe working environment within and around areas associated with the employee work environment.
- Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
