The newly established Office of Well-being at the University of Virginia Student Health and Wellness Center (SHW) is looking for a dynamic Associate Director to lead initiatives that foster healthy relationships and address the complexities of gender and interpersonal violence. Reporting to the Director of Well-being, this role involves providing leadership and coordinating advocacy services while planning, developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the University's comprehensive interpersonal violence prevention strategy. The ideal candidate will employ a holistic public health approach that encompasses individual and community health, prevention, response, and assessment. This is a full- time 12-month University Staff position with all state benefits.

Specific responsibilities include :

Supervision / Administration / Advocacy (60%)

Provide leadership on development, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive and evidence-informed University interpersonal violence prevention strategic plan with annual and long-term goals and objectives.
Mentor and supervise professional staff, graduate interns and peer health educators who provide healthy relationship and sexual violence prevention and early intervention programs.
Work with SHW Communications team to manage and revise website content and marketing that supports interpersonal violence prevention and advocacy.
Assist the Director in development of Office of Well-being policies and initiatives, budget management, evaluation, community collaborations and communications.
Prepare reports summarizing data and trends to advocate for resources and additional programming needs.
Other duties as assigned or in consultation with the Director of Well-being.
Serve as a back-up to campus advocacy on-call team.

Pan-University Collaborations (20%)

Cultivate and sustain strong, collaborative working relationships and initiatives with colleagues across the University (i.e., Title IX, Deans / Directors in Student Affairs, Athletics Administration, Housing, etc.), the Charlottesville community, and other institutions of higher education in Virginia.

Participate in the University's Healthy Sexual Culture Committee which identifies institutional priorities and ensures sufficient resource allocation. Emphasis is on enhancing the supportiveness of the campus environment, advancing health protective factors, and reducing personal and community risk factors.

Represent the Office of Well-being and the University on appropriate internal and external committees and conferences.

Prevention to Response Initiatives (20%)

Analyze data to identify needs and priorities, evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and track trends (University and national) to inform services and programs.

Identify the root causes and environmental factors specific to the University which contribute to high-risk behaviors to stop sexual violence before it occurs.

Use the Socio-Ecological Model, Motivational Interviewing and other positive and empowering interventions to create sustainable behavior change.

Evaluate the University's active bystander intervention program and implement needed changes.

Train student leaders (i.e., peer educators, resident advisors, orientation leaders, etc.) and facilitate discussions on healthy relationships, etc.

Facilitate discussions and presentations for staff, faculty, and community partners on topics related to sexual violence prevention and healthy relationships promotion.

Remain fluent on Title IX directives, Campus SaVE Act, VAWA, and other policies and guidelines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience :

Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a closely related field of study.

Three or more years of professional experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

Experience as a proven leader, strategist, and manager

Knowledge of best practices in college health promotion and public health practices

Experience in developing, implementing, and assessing prevention programs

Understanding of the intersectionality of student identities -including gender, race, and sexual orientation particularly as they relate to interpersonal and gender violence prevention and healthy relationship promotion

Knowledge of behavior change theory, Socio-Ecological Model, Motivational Interviewing, and pro social marketing principles

Demonstrated coalition building skills

Working knowledge of Campus SaVE Act, VAWA, CLERY and other regs and policy

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills

Ability to be flexible, work independently, and be proactive with pursuing collaborations

Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications :

Four or more years of providing advocacy related services and / or interpersonal / gender violence prevention work.

Demonstrated experience collaborating across disciplines, university and community partners

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) and / or state or national advocacy certification

Experience writing and applying for grants.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending / stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion : computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $90,000.00-$120,000.00 annually, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The selected applicant will pass a background check and health and drug screen. This is a full-time position with UVA benefits . Employees benefits package highlights include :
