Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to support the ongoing implementation and support of complex technology solutions in an Oracle 12c database environment. The successful candidate will provide a technical role in maintaining VDACS Oracle databases and application servers to meet agency strategic goals, implementing effective support operations using agency approved technologies, and execute database administration tasks to maintain the agency's database and application server capabilities. The incumbent will participate in Database Administration efforts on an ongoing basis. Additional duties include assisting in the design and planning of projects and standards and supporting team efforts to continually improve skills and delivery practices. Once onboarded, this position may be eligible for telework opportunities; availability, hours, and duration of telework shall be approved as outlined in the Commonwealth's telework policy. VDACS will consider a maximum of one day per week telework once fully onboarded and trained.
Minimum Qualifications
Significant knowledge of and DBA experience with Oracle 19c database management systems, database modeling, application architecture, performance monitoring and skills with tuning tools, techniques and utilities and knowledge of web-enabled computer paradigms, including web servers. Knowledge of web-enabled applications including Oracle Application Server/WebLogic, Oracle Application Express, HTML and PL/SQL. Experience patching Oracle database and related products, 19c or later. Basic knowledge of application testing techniques including application security. Demonstrated skills to provide effective technical support for agency users and development staff in Oracle and Oracle related software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to express complex technical information in user-friendly terminology; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; effective time management and organizational skills; and an understanding of information and data security, access control theory, backup, and recovery techniques. Ability to work independently and manage projects with minimal direction and to establish good working relationships with co-workers, the public, outside agencies, and vendors; to maintain technical documentation; and to use database management tools is essential. Demonstrated ability to provide timely, professional, and courteous customer service is required. H.S Diploma/GED required.
Additional Considerations
A combination of related education, training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills, and abilities to include a degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, mathematics, engineering or another related field. Current/recent experience with Oracle database; DBA experience with Oracle 12c or 19c; and experience working with information and data security, access control theory, backup and recovery techniques and security controls. Oracle DBA certification for Oracle 12c.
