Job Duties

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center; named for two Medal of Honor recipients - Colonel Van Barfoot and Colonel Carl Sitter - provides the gold standard in quality care for Virginia's Veterans. This single-level facility features 200 single-occupancy rooms across four nursing units.

Sitter & Barfoot Veterans Care Center (SBVCC) is recruiting for a Certified Nurse Aide to act as a Memory Care Aide within our Memory Care Unit. This will be a Day Shift position working from 6 : 00AM-2 : 30PM EST and would include rotating weekend shifts.

The Memory Care Aide-CNA would perform the following job duties :

  • Conduct and carry out recreation and leisure programs to meet the assessed needs, interest, and capabilities of the patients in a long-term nursing care environment.
  • Assist patients in attending small or large group activities and provide support during the activities in order to increase the resident's success.
  • Assess and document patients' abilities, needs, and records patient participation in activity groups to provide information for the overall assessment of programming needs.
  • Alert LPNs and / or Memory Care Programming Director of noticeable changes in resident behavior.
  • Assist in the coordination of programs with other departments in the center and with community resources as assigned.
  • Document resident's level of involvement in programs and of and change in their involvement.
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations.
  • Assist with setting meal trays and ensure residents eat their prescribed diets, serve between meal nourishment / fluids and document consumption, and set the best dining atmosphere for residents.
  • Perform additional duties as required / assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent knowledge of memory care programming with demonstrated experience in caring for residents with Dementia.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services which can include but is not limited to : customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand and to comprehend information presented by others.
  • Must possess the physical ability to turn, bend and lift without restrictions.
  • Additional Considerations

  • Experience in a long-term care or adult geriatric setting.
