Position Summary
This position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating the wastewater program while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Required to be available and “on call” every 8th weekend and must provide a working telephone number.
- Oversees both offal rooms-removes product going to rendering
- Dumps hoppers into offal trucks
- Completes reports
- Performs phosphorous and chlorine tests and required DEQ testing
- Removes sludge and decants tanker
- Mixes chemicals-lime slurries and polymer
- Performs dissolved oxygen, PH, and sludge depth checks every 2 hours
- Operates Gradall, forklift, and yard buggy
- Cleans hoppers, middle level of pretreatment room, drain pad, wash bay screen room, and the lot between pretreatment and drain pad- follow cleaning duties/schedules as assigned.
- Performs flow meter readings/checks rain gauge
- Performs nitrate testing and well water testing
- Start up and shut down of waste treatment plant
- Other duties as assigned
- Covers for other technicians during absences and/or vacations
- Must be able to work without close supervision
- Must maintain an excellent attendance record
- Must follow all safety procedures and requirements
- Must obtain a Class II wastewater license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia within 5 years of eligibility.
- Must have or obtain a forklift license
Education, Training, Certifications:
- wastewater license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia -would need to obtain within 5 years
- Forklift license
- High school diploma or GED preferred
