Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach welding in the Division of Industrial Technology. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom or online environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
This welding class is taught on Monday evenings from 5:30 – 9:00 p.m. on campus.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver coursework in welding.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of full-time, hands-on experience in welding.
- At least an associate’s degree in a relevant field, OR, a combination of two or more years of additional full-time welding experience (above the 5-year minimum) in place of the degree.
- Possess current welding certifications.
- Wide range of coursework in the area of instruction.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to incorporate technology into instruction.
