Sensitive Position No Job Description

The primary role of the Associate Dean position is to provide support to the academic dean, faculty, and staff in the designated academic school. This position reports to the Dean of the designated school and will directly hire, supervise, and evaluate the part-time faculty housed within the school. The Associate Dean will serve as a liaison for the Dean in matters related to student issues and complaints, the coordination of school operations including course scheduling, and will support the larger strategic priorities of the school and the Academic and Student Affairs unit. The Associate Dean will serve as a 12-month administrative faculty member who should have the flexibility to work at our various college locations.

Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies.

Special Assignments

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in an academic discipline or in Higher Education Administration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission and philosophy.
  • Administrative experience with demonstrated leadership and management skills.
  • College teaching experience
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience in planning, coordination and on-going improvement of curriculum and instruction.
  • Commitment to student success.
  • Collaborative leadership style.
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility in problem solving.
  • Demonstrated commitment to academic excellence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Additional Considerations

  • Master’s Degree in a discipline represented in the Academic School.
  • Earned Doctorate in higher education administration, a related field, or a discipline represented in the Academic School.
  • Full-time teaching experience at the college level.
  • Administrative/leadership experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of community college curricula, instructional practices, and learning outcomes.
  • Experience in outcomes assessment.
  • Experience managing grants and preparing reports.

Experience in developing strategic, student-focused and programmatic class schedules.

Operation of a State Vehicle Yes Supervises Employees Yes Required Travel

Travel as per any required duties of the position, such as to sites/campuses and any training. Ability to cover assignments throughout the college service region as necessary for the job is required.
