Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946 and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.
This is a full-time administrative faculty position. The position will primarily be located at and provide support to the DCC Transportation & Logistics program in the coordination and delivery of the Diesel Diagnostics and Repair Program. The position will teach diesel curriculum mapped to the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and Snap-On curriculum. Additional duties may include working with other related certification programs.
Job Responsibilities
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Job Responsibilities
- Teaches diesel repair technology classes. Responsible for the recruitment, work-based learning opportunities, and job placement of students into workforce programs.
- Actively participates in the program advisory board(s).
- Defines learning objectives, prepares and teaches classes, creates a student-oriented learning environment, and evaluates student learning in assigned courses.
- Engages in curriculum and course development * Serve as academic advisor*
- Participates on college committees and other activities.
- Available to teach day, evenings, weekends and on and off-campus classes in person and online.
- Assists in the recruitment, training and support of adjunct instructors within the teaching field.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- High school diploma and 5 years non-teaching work experience in an automotive repair facility.
- Possess a current ASE Master Automotive & Diesel Technician certification and/or willing to obtain certification by May 2025.
- Current knowledge of industry issues and practices.
- Demonstrated ability to teach students from a wide spectrum of ages and from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
- The ability to work with a diverse faculty, staff and student population.
- The ability to review, revise and develop curriculum to meet industry and certification standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to utilize campus resources including software and college learning management systems.
- Ability to exercise discretion and use sound judgement in decision making.
- Ability to use technology to enhance instruction and to effectively teach in classrooms and labs.
Additional Considerations
- Associate’s Degree.
- Experience providing technical education in classroom/small group settings.
- Curriculum development experience.
