Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.
This position is restricted and is funded through a grant and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College.

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is an integral part of the academic units that report to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The LRC advances the mission of the college through a comprehensive, readily accessible collection of VPCC curriculum related informational materials, instructional technologies, and other academic support services that meet the educational needs of students, faculty, and staff.
Provides individual and small group instruction, assistance, and resources to currently enrolled students who encounter math related problems in their VPCC courses.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Demonstrated math teaching and/or tutorial experience at the high school or two-year college level.
- Demonstrated understanding of the pedagogical principles in working with adult learners.
- Demonstrated understanding of the pedagogical considerations in working with underprepared students.
- Demonstrated understanding of mathematics foundations (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and trigonometry) necessary for success in associate degrees and certificate level career and technical programs and courses.
- Familiarity with word processing and spreadsheet software, databases and electronic communications.
- Proficiency with graphing calculators.
- Excellent communication and strong listening skills
- Excellent interpersonal and time management skills.
- Analytic problem-solving skills.
- Ability to create a safe and engaging learning environment.
- Patience, flexibility, ability to vary teaching methods and resources according to student needs.
