New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. Process various payrolls and maintain pay data in the Cardinal and AIS systems while ensuring confidentiality of employee data. Ensure all monthly and quarterly reporting requirement deadlines are met. Stay current on understanding labor laws and tax updates. Perform the reconciliation of benefit bills, payments, new enrollments, employee benefit changes and multiple Virginia Retirement System (VRS) modernization roles. Download and process all HR reports generated through Cardinal and the VCCS Accounting Information System (AIS). Maintain time and attendance accounting through Human Capital Management (HCM) for classified staff, teaching faculty and administrators. Assist the Benefits Specialist with recruitment and onboarding as needed. Assist with various programs such as short-term disability, family and medical leave, benefits and leave sharing. Assist with answering the telephone and responding to inquiries. Perform other duties as assigned.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Training and work experience in business, accounting, human resources or related fields.
- Strong working knowledge of payroll and benefits functions/procedures and other HR processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Aptitude for critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service.
- Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality and interpret and apply various policies and procedures accurately and in a professional manner.
Additional factors that may be considered include
- Successful work experience in payroll and other HR support functions.
- Experience with the PeopleSoft Human Capital Management System (HCM and Cardinal), Administrative Information System (AIS) or comparable automated systems for institutions of higher education.
