What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab and Field Aide position at Virginia Tech?
Are you a current or recently-graduated science major interested in gaining hands-on experience in a professional lab setting? Consider working as a Lab & Field Aide at Virginia Tech’s Hampton Roads Agricultural Research and Extension Center (AREC), located at 1444 Diamond Springs Road, Virginia Beach.
Responsibilities
The Lab & Field Aide will assist faculty members, visiting scientists, and graduate students in the Integrative Microbiology group with their lab (80%) and field projects (20%). This includes following lab routines and protocols, project set-up, data collection and entry, equipment and lab sanitization, and autoclaving used plants and materials before disposal.
Qualifications
You must already be residing in Virginia Beach to apply. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, well-organized, and will have prior experience in a lab setting with an enthusiasm for research and learning new skills.
Qualifications include knowledge in:
- Biology
- Horticulture
- Previous experience in data collection and entry
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
You must have access to a vehicle which may be required occasionally in the course of work. Preference will be given to those with knowledge and experience in:
- Research planning
- Literacy in scientific writing
- Strong attention to details
