Virginia Veterinary Specialists (VVS) is central Virginia’s first small animal referral center. We are a private practice that is made up of dedicated board-certified veterinary specialists and licensed technicians who are committed to providing high quality and compassionate patient care.

We are seeking an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician with strong leadership skills for our Surgery Supervisor role with a signing bonus of up to $10,000 based on experience.

The Surgery Supervisor is responsible for developing and maintaining a team of engaged and empowered team members by facilitating the training and development of their staff as well as building and maintaining exceptional standards of care to our patients, clients, and our referring community. The Surgery Supervisor leads the department on the floor and works to support clinical staff members to achieve their individual and team goals.

The Surgery Supervisor is an experienced Licensed Veterinary Technician that oversees and facilitates all aspects of the surgical department.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the culture and operational flow of the Surgical Department
  • Serves as the first point of contact for Surgery staff (technician call-outs, employee relations, patient/client concerns, etc.)
  • Works as the Surgical main point of contact for inter-departmental communications.
  • Helps to drive the flow of the day and should have a general understanding of what is happening with all surgical patients at any given time
  • Ensures there are adequate medication/supplies for the department
  • Oversees all patient care and clinical services in the surgical department.
  • Serves as a resource for information for all staff as appropriate.
  • Oversees the training of all new surgical clinical team members either directly or indirectly in conjunction with Regina or other technicians.
  • Provide regular feedback to staff.
  • Upholds the protocols that we have now by providing real-time corrections and support to staff.
  • Works with HR and Clinical Staff and Services Manager to provide coaching, guidance, and direction to staff; including setting performance and conduct standards as well as monitoring and correcting staff’s conduct and performance.
  • Completes and performs Surgery staff performance evaluations.
  • Establishes technician schedules.
  • Manages direct reports’ time cards.
  • Participates in the Saturday morning rotation with other technicians.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of computers and relevant software applications including MS Office (Word), Instinct, Cubex, etc.
  • Knowledge of the procedures used for receiving, treating, and scheduling patients, for ordering medical supplies, and requesting laboratory tests.
  • Knowledge of the use, care, and storage of veterinary instruments, materials, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of sterilization techniques to sterilize various instruments and materials.
  • Knowledge of the instruments, materials, and standardized procedures used in the full variety of treatments to make preparations and provide “tableside” assistance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $33.00 - $37.00 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Day shift
  • Monday to Friday

Experience:

  • Anesthesia LVT: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Supervisory: 1 year (Required)
  • Veterinary technician: 3 years (Required)

License/Certification:

  • Veterinary Technician License (Virginia) (Required)
  • VTS in Anesthesia (Preferred)
