What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hospital Chaplain Full time Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes - Camden position at VIRTUA?
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain and/or Catholic Priest to provide spiritual guidance and support to patients, their families and staff members. Our ideal candidate is someone with exceptional communication skills, deep spiritual understanding, sensitivity to the beliefs and traditions of others, and the ability to provide comfort in difficult situations. Master’s degree in Divinity, Theology, or related field. Priest chaplains will need the endorsement of their diocese or Religious Superior Board-Certified Chaplain (ability to obtain certification within 24 months). Prior experience in healthcare setting is preferred. Ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends. Ability to speak Spanish would be highly preferred.
Position Responsibilities:
• By way of responding to referrals from various sources, to assess the level of spiritual distress, provide appropriate interventions to patients and their families/friends in meeting their religious and spiritual needs through visitation, sacramental and ritual ministry and referral services and documenting the outcome of these interventions in the patient record.
• To provide the same comprehensive pastoral care to the health care workers and volunteers as needed and requested.
• To oversee the chapel and pastoral care offices 7 days a week, 24 hours a day; processing requests for spiritual interventions on a priority basis, dispatching professional chaplains, community clergy and/or specially trained clergy and lay volunteers as appropriate; maximum response time per request being 24 hours.
• To serve as a liaison and facilitator for area clergy.
• To plan and lead religious services.
• Recruit, Train, And provide continuing Education for Volunteer Chaplain Aides.
• By way of participating in interdisciplinary care rounds on CCU , 5 Stokes, 3 NE, and on 4 NE/NW and serving on various local and system-wide committees, such as critical care and bioethics, to act as advisor to the health care team on religious and/or spiritual issues impacting the plan of care.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
A minimum of 3 years experience in Parish, Institutional Ministry or Pastoral Care Administration.
Required Education:
Education and training in ministry sufficient to meet the criteria of the chaplain’s own faith group for professional ministry; typically the incumbent will have earned the MDiv degree from an accredited seminary.
In addition, one unit of Clinical Pastoral education or comparable supervised clinical education is preferred.
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
70 hours per year of continuing education is expected.
Board Certified Clinical Chaplain certificate or equivalent is preferred.
