Summary:
The Lieutenant is responsible for supervising and maintaining the daily operations of assigned area, lead shift briefings and training to continually improve the preparedness by organizing regular training topics. The Lieutenant will foster an environment that encourages positive morale and professionalism.
Position Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing, hiring and retention of staff, including training, coaching and development and ensuring that all staff members are performing to procedure and standards.
Coordinates and monitor workflow. Ensure that results are measured against standards, while making necessary changes along the way.
Provides daily operational support to the Chief or Director and as needed assumes responsibility for the operations of the department.
Educate trains and drills hospital staff on responding to emergency situations.
Works with Security Leadership to develop new policies and procedures, support new projects, and to make recommendations on the enhancement of the staffing structure and available equipment.
Participates in Environment of Care rounds and Joint Commission Surveys.
Assists in internal investigations within the security department.
Assists other departments in investigations that may include card reader reports and camera reviews.
Supports the Chief and or Director in reports and Finance/Budget tracking.
Review and approve incidents and quick reports.
Responsible for the planning, scheduling, and staffing for Virtua Events and others on or near their respective campuses.
Utilize Health System technology and systems to provide visitor control, input, and output data; investigations, incident reports and shift logs; access control; infant protection and the security of sensitive areas.
Performs the duties associated with all assigned posts, including but not limited to walking and mobile security and safety rounds; stationary posts; one-to-one observer; traffic control and special assignments.
Collaborates and effectively communicates (verbal and written) with division team members; officer-in-charge (OIC); immediate supervisor; Nursing Supervisor; Division Management; Health System security teams; and law enforcement agencies.
Provides directions and when warranted escorts visitors, vendors, patients, and staff to appropriate locations within and outside of the facilities and parking lots.
Verify all staff is wearing ID badge and the public (visitors, vendors, contractors, etc.) obtain proper ID bands, passes and badges. Fabricates ID badges.
Assesses all minor maintenance issues. Ensures issues are addressed either directly by security staff or communicated to appropriate Plant Engineering staff for resolution.
Supervises and evaluates practices and improves the Safety and Security Management program. This includes participation in the Environment of Care Committee and the periodic measurement of program effectiveness.
Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:
4 or more years’ experience in security or comparable role.
Required Education:
HS diploma or equivalent.
Training/Certifications/Licensure:
Valid Driver’s License Required.
NJ Security Officers Registration Act (SORA) certified preferred.
