Job Summary:
The Medical Director for ASCs shall have oversight and guidance for the clinical practice and regulatory requirements of the Ambulatory Surgery Centers Joint Venture Partnerships. Will work under the direction of the CMO/VP of JV ASC’s.
Position Responsibilities:
In collaboration with Virtua management VP/CMO JV ASC’s, define, communicate and reinforce with the ambulatory surgery centers’ Medical Staff, the goals and objectives of the Department.
Develop, review and/or revise, in conjunction with VP/CMO JV ASC’s, the medical practice safety policies, protocols, procedures, and standards (all of which shall comply with state and federal requirements, ethical policies, and the standards of certifying and accrediting ambulatory surgery center agencies, regulatory authorities and such other entities as VirtuaVP/CMO JV ASC’s may specify).
Serve on the Quality Committees and/or Clinical Operations Committees to identify issues related to quality and develop and assist in the implementation of plans and programs to correct identified quality deficiencies.
Participate on Joint Venture Executive Boards as requested and on Virtua Performance Improvement Departments.
Serve on and/or chair, relevant Virtua Committees designed to further the goals of the Department and Virtua as requested.
Advise and participate in creation of policies and procedures governing new programs or changes in existing programs to maximize the quality and efficiency of the Department.
Assist the VP/CMO JV ASC’s in resolving issues or conflicts between the professional staff of joint venture businesses as well as assist in resolving conflicts between professional staff and employees.
Develop, in conjunction with Virtua leadership, appropriate medical and emergency medical policies and procedures related to the care and treatment of individuals utilizing the Department and prepare changes as necessary to ensure that the Department meets the requirements of federal and state law, applicable licensing requirements, certifying and accrediting ambulatory surgery centers’ agencies and other regulatory authorities.
Plan and facilitate, in conjunction with Virtua management, all Department clinical meetings and work with its professional staff to ensure medical standards are met.
Assist and/or advise Department management on research and development initiatives on special patient/member populations and/or programs and provide input on research studies and protocols conducted in and by the Department’s staff.
Position Qualifications Required:
Required Experience:
A minimum of three years Facility Director experience for an ambulatory surgical center or equivalent.
Knowledge of all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules, regulations, and standards, including, without limitation, Section 6032 of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005, requirements for participation in Medicare and Medicaid, and all applicable standards and recommendations of the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (QUADA) and Joint Commission ASC (JC), Medical Staff Bylaws and all other rules and regulations established by the Ambulatory Surgery Centers or the Medical Staff that are applicable to the operation of the Program.
Required Education:
MD, DO or DMD/DDS degree with a minimum of three (3) years of practice experience (3) years facility management experience.
Training / Certification / Licensure:
Current or prior unrestricted license to practice medicine/dentistry in the State of New Jersey.
