Full-time Monday-Friday, 8a-4p (and as needed for alternate simulations related to course schedule)

Job Summary:

The Simulation Lab Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating simulation-based learning experiences for nursing students. This includes overseeing the planning, implementation, and evaluation of simulation scenarios, ensuring that the simulations align with educational goals and standards of practice. The coordinator will collaborate with nursing faculty to integrate simulations into the curriculum and support faculty and students in utilizing state-of-the-art simulation technology to enhance learning outcomes. The coordinator is responsible for the maintenance and ordering of laboratory equipment. The coordinator works with the faculty and Course Coordinators to schedule courses and individual student time in the laboratory. The coordinator manages the open laboratory hours according to student needs across the nursing program.

Position Responsibilities:

Simulation Program Management and Faculty Collaboration

  • Coordinate and oversee the daily operations of the nursing simulation program, including scheduling, setup, and maintenance of simulation activities.
  • Work with faculty and staff to design, develop, and implement clinical simulation scenarios that reflect real-world nursing practices and align with curriculum objectives.
  • Ensure that simulation activities comply with accreditation standards, institutional policies, and best practices in nursing education.
  • Collaborate with nursing faculty to develop and adapt simulation scenarios that meet learning objectives and student competency requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to faculty on simulation technology and teaching methodologies to enhance instructional effectiveness.
  • Support faculty in integrating simulation activities into the nursing curriculum and in assessing student performance during simulation exercises.

Simulation Technology Management:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of simulation equipment and technology, including manikins, software, and audiovisual systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to simulation equipment and ensure proper functioning of all simulation resources.
  • Stay up to date on emerging simulation technologies and recommend improvements or new tools as needed.
  • Ensure that students are properly prepared for simulation activities through pre-simulation orientation and briefing sessions.
  • Provide support to students during and after simulation exercises, offering constructive feedback to enhance their learning experience.
  • Monitor student participation, engagement, and performance during simulations and assist in the evaluation of students' clinical competencies.
  • Ensures the simulation-based experiences are purposefully designed to meet identified course objectives and optimize achievement of expected outcomes.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Develop and implement strategies for evaluating the effectiveness of simulation activities in achieving program goals and student learning outcomes.
  • Collect and analyze data from student performance, faculty feedback, and other evaluation tools to improve the quality of the simulation program.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on simulation activities for accreditation purposes, faculty meetings, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Leads Pre-briefing ensuring that simulation learners are prepared for the educational content and are aware of the ground rules for the simulation-based experience.
  • Ensures facilitation methods are varied, and use of a specific method is dependent on the learning needs of the learner and the expected outcomes.
  • Develops the structure and process to guide participants to work cohesively, to meet the learning objectives and develop a plan to achieve desired outcomes. 
  • Guides All simulation-based educational (SBE) activities that lead to a planned debriefing process which includes any of the activities of feedback, debriefing, and/or guided reflection.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Ensure that all simulation activities adhere to health and safety regulations and guidelines, including infection control protocols.
  • Monitor and maintain a safe, effective, and ethical environment for students, faculty, and staff involved in simulation activities.

Budgeting and Resource Management:

  • Assist in the development and management of the simulation budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Coordinate the procurement and maintenance of simulation equipment and supplies.

Position Qualifications Required:

Required Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience, with experience in simulation-based education required. Proficient in the use of simulation technology, manikins, audiovisual equipment, and related software. Experience in nursing education or teaching, including the use of clinical simulation, is required.

Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

Ability to provide constructive feedback and promote a positive learning environment.

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in relation to simulation scenarios.

Knowledge of accreditation standards, educational assessment methods, and clinical competency evaluation.

Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

Required Education:

Master’s degree in nursing, required. Doctorate degree in Education or Nursing Practice preferred.

Training / Certification / Licensure:

Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey.

CHSE (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator) CHSE-A (Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator Advanced) required within 3 years of hire.
