About the Position:
Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager, this role will be responsible for preparing payroll journal entries, assisting with payroll review, financial analysis, supporting tax return preparation, and aiding in the 401(k) audit. Additionally, the Staff Accountant will play a key role in compiling and preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements and other internal reports to support business decision-making.
Essential Functions:
Payroll & Journal Entries
- Prepare and record all payroll journal entries, ensuring accuracy and proper classification within the General Ledger
- Assist the Accounting Manager in reviewing bi-monthly payroll transmissions prepared by an external third-party provider to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal policies
- Assist with payroll tax registrations and issues, communicating with both external service provider and governmental bodies
- Assist with tracking and administering certain employee incentive programs
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, including the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement
- Gather and organize financial data to support internal management reports, ensuring accuracy and clarity
- Perform monthly financial analysis, comparing actuals to budget and forecasts, identifying key variances, and providing insights to management
- Support the month-end and quarter-end close processes, including account reconciliations and journal entries
Tax & 401(k) Audit Support
- Assist with the preparation of deliverables for the companys tax return preparation, ensuring accuracy and timely submission
- Support the 401(k) audit process, gathering necessary documentation and reconciling payroll and benefits contributions
General Accounting & Process Improvement
- Assist the Accounting Manager in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with company policies and GAAP
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency in payroll accounting, financial analysis, and reporting
- Assist with ad-hoc financial projects and reporting requests as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 1-3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a corporate or public accounting setting
- Understanding of GAAP, payroll accounting, and financial statement preparation
- Experience with financial reporting, payroll journal entries, and variance analysis
- Proficiency in ERP/Accounting software (Sage Intacct experience preferred) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work independently
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
