Opportunity:
Virtual Service Operations is seeking a Cloud Cost Optimization Specialist to join our team in Houston, TX. This hybrid role requires candidates to work on-site occasionally, with the remainder of the time spent working remotely. The Cloud Cost Optimization Specialist will be responsible for managing and optimizing cloud resource expenditures, providing critical financial analysis, and implementing cost control strategies across cloud platforms. This role requires an individual with extensive experience in budgeting for cloud resources, financial forecasting, and cost management. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient management of cloud spending, identify cost-saving opportunities, and drive cloud cost optimization strategies.
Responsibilities:
- Cloud Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Develop and manage cloud budgeting processes, including tracking, forecasting, and reporting on cloud-related expenditures.
- Create and maintain financial models to support budgeting, cost forecasting, and cloud spending optimization.
- Cost Control & Optimization:
- Implement and monitor cost control strategies for cloud resources (compute, storage, networking, services), ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Identify potential areas of cloud resource waste and recommend cost-saving optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate with cloud engineering and operations teams to implement cloud cost-saving initiatives, such as rightsizing and service selection.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Produce detailed cloud cost reports and dashboards, highlighting spending trends, anomalies, and potential savings opportunities.
- Provide regular financial performance reports and conduct variance analysis to compare actual spend to forecasted spend.
- Provide insights on the financial impact of cloud initiatives to help stakeholders make informed, data-driven decisions.
- Governance & Compliance:
- Assist in establishing financial governance policies for cloud spending, ensuring transparency and proper tracking.
- Implement and manage cost allocation and tagging strategies to track cloud resource usage by departments, teams, and projects.
- Ensure compliance with cloud cost management standards and best practices.
- Collaboration & Support:
- Work closely with IT, cloud architects, and finance teams to provide cloud cost visibility and collaborate on resource optimization and budgeting decisions.
- Support business units in understanding and managing their cloud spending through clear communication and financial analysis.
- Provide training and support to internal teams on how to track and manage cloud costs effectively.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation:
- Stay updated on the latest trends in cloud cost management, pricing models, and industry best practices.
- Continuously improve cost management processes by identifying tools and methods for greater financial oversight efficiency.
Requirements
- Please note that pursuant to a government contract, this specific position requires U.S. citizenship status
- New hires assigned on this project will be required to undergo and pass drug and alcohol tests per our client's contract requirements
- Public Trust Clearance preferred.
- 7 - 9 years of professional experience as an Azure Cloud Engineer
- Strong experience with cloud financial analysis, cost management, or budgeting, ideally in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud environments.
- Proficient with cloud cost management tools, such as AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, or Google Cloud Billing.
- Advanced skills in Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling) and experience with data visualization tools like Power BI or Tableau.
- Expertise in cost optimization strategies and financial governance for cloud platforms.
