Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a passionate and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Medical Surgical team at a leading Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, day shift position at a hospital with 401 licensed beds. This facility is renowned for its comprehensive services, including a dedicated Children's Hospital, a Maternity Center with the state's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, specialized Heart and Cancer Centers, Alaska's largest Emergency Department with LifeMed Alaska air ambulance transport, and comprehensive Behavioral Health Services.
Position Overview:
As a Medical Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in elevating the standard of care within the medical-surgical units. Utilizing the Synergy Model, you will support, supervise, and evaluate staff new to the clinical setting, acting within the nurse-patient, nurse-nurse, and nurse-system spheres. You will foster a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to healthcare delivery, promote excellence in nursing care through the implementation of clinical standards, and establish competency standards for staff members. This role requires advanced clinical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a dedication to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Support, supervise, and evaluate staff new to the medical-surgical setting during their first 90 to 180 days on the unit, providing guidance and mentorship.
- Act as a clinical expert and resource for nurses and other healthcare professionals, promoting evidence-based practice and best practices in patient care.
- Facilitate a multi-disciplinary and collaborative approach to healthcare delivery, ensuring effective communication and coordination among team members.
- Promote excellence in nursing care through the implementation of clinical standards of practice and establishing competency standards for staff members.
- Develop and implement educational programs and initiatives to enhance the knowledge and skills of nursing staff.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and research projects to advance the care of medical-surgical patients.
- Advocate for patient safety and quality care within the medical-surgical units and throughout the hospital.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in medical-surgical nursing and promote a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's Degree from a clinical nurse specialist program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- Experience:
- 3 years of Registered Nursing experience in a Medical-Surgical setting.
- 2 years of Clinical Leadership responsibility.
- Licensure: Alaska Registered Nurse License upon hire.
- Certifications:
- BLS - American Heart Association certification upon hire.
- Current certification in area of specialty (e.g., CEN, CCRN) upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CNS certification in area of specialty upon hire.
