Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a passionate and experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at a leading Level II Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in Anchorage, Alaska. This is a full-time, day shift position at a hospital with 401 licensed beds. This facility is renowned for its comprehensive services, including a dedicated Children's Hospital, a Maternity Center with the state's only Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, specialized Heart and Cancer Centers, Alaska's largest Emergency Department with LifeMed Alaska air ambulance transport, and comprehensive Behavioral Health Services.
Position Overview:
As a NICU Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing expert consultation and leadership in the care of critically ill neonates. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient outcomes, promote evidence-based practice, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the NICU. This role requires advanced clinical knowledge, strong leadership skills, and a dedication to providing family-centered care.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consultation and guidance to nurses and other healthcare professionals in the care of neonates with complex medical conditions.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement evidence-based practices and protocols to improve patient outcomes.
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and participate in research activities to advance the care of critically ill neonates.
- Educate and mentor nurses and other healthcare professionals, fostering their professional development and clinical expertise.
- Serve as a resource for families, providing education and support during a challenging time.
- Advocate for patient safety and quality care within the NICU and throughout the hospital.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in neonatal care and promote a culture of continuous learning.
Qualifications:
- Education: Master's Degree from a clinical nurse specialist program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC).
- Experience:
- 3 years of Registered Nursing experience in a NICU or similar critical care setting.
- 2 years of Clinical Leadership responsibility.
- Licensure: Alaska Registered Nurse License upon hire.
- Certifications:
- BLS - American Heart Association certification upon hire.
- Current certification in area of specialty (e.g., CCRN) upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CNS certification in area of specialty upon hire.
