Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) specializing in pediatrics to join a leading 511-bed Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in San Diego, CA. This full-time position offers a variety of night shift options (3x12, 4x12, or 36/48 alternating) and the opportunity to provide exceptional care to pediatric patients in a dynamic and rewarding environment. This children's hospital is renowned for its comprehensive pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including a Level IV NICU, Level I PICU, and Cardiothoracic ICU.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive respiratory care to pediatric patients across at least two of the three ICUs, including the Level IV NICU, Level I PICU, and/or Cardiothoracic ICU.
- Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of respiratory therapies, including trach and vent management, suctioning, and oxygen administration.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver patient-centered care.
- Utilize critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate respiratory care plans.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, adhering to hospital policies and procedures.
- Adhere to safety and infection control protocols, prioritizing patient and staff safety.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the enhancement of respiratory care services.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of Trauma Level 1 or NICU Level 4 experience (can be at a mixed adult/peds facility, children's hospital preferred).
- Licensure and Certifications:
- Current California RCP License.
- RRT national credential required; RRT-NPS preferred.
- BLS, PALS, and NRP (AHA) - Must be Advanced; Essential no longer accepted. Must have in hand or registered for an Advanced class that will be completed prior to the start date.
- Skills:
- Strong pediatric ICU skill set.
- Proficiency in trach and vent management, suctioning, and oxygen administration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and challenging environment.

- Start date: ASAP
- Weekend Requirements: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period (2 full weekends).
- No on-call requirements.
- Floating within the scope of responsibilities to meet facility needs.
- Locals accepted at the travel bill rate.
- Pending State License accepted.
- RTO Restrictions: 6 days max.
- Guaranteed Hours: hours are guaranteed after the call-off policy has been met.
- Flu shot required.
