Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management:
- Provide leadership and direction to the surgical services team, creating a positive and supportive work environment.
- Oversee the daily operations of the surgical department, including scheduling, staffing, and resource management.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Manage and mentor nursing staff, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new staff members.
- Clinical Expertise:
- Maintain a high level of clinical competency in surgical nursing, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective surgical procedures.
- Implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Monitor patient outcomes and identify areas for improvement in clinical care delivery.
- Quality and Safety:
- Develop and implement quality assurance programs to ensure the delivery of high-quality surgical care.
- Promote a culture of safety, adhering to hospital policies and procedures to prevent errors and adverse events.
- Monitor patient safety indicators and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Financial Management:
- Manage the surgical department's budget, ensuring cost-effective utilization of resources.
- Monitor expenses and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels within the surgical department and with other departments within the facility.
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care for surgical patients.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families, addressing concerns and providing updates on their care.
- Education and Licensure:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited school of nursing required.
- Current Oregon Registered Nurse License required.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association required.
- Experience:
- Must have recent first-line management experience.
- 3 years of clinical experience in surgical services required.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field.
- Skills and Abilities:
- Strong clinical skills and in-depth knowledge of surgical nursing practices.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage and mentor a team.
- Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards related to surgical services.
- Proficient in using electronic medical records and other healthcare technology.
