Summary: As a Dispensing Optician, you will provide excellent patient care through accurate eyewear fittings, frame adjustments, and ensure patients receive the best optical solutions for their needs. You will be skilled in measuring, fitting, and adjusting eyeglasses, while also delivering exceptional customer service. Additionally, you’ll manage inventory, maintain accurate records, and work towards achieving key performance indicators (KPIs) aligned with our brand values.

Dispensing Optician Primary Duties:

• Adjust frames and lens positions to ensure a perfect fit, including shaping or reshaping frames for comfort and appearance.
• Perform basic repairs to eyeglasses, including reshaping damaged frames.
• Use tools such as lensometers or lens analyzers to help patients understand their lens prescriptions. Prepare work orders for optical laboratory technicians with grinding and mounting instructions.
• Verify that lenses are ground to specifications and confirm the accuracy of the finished product.
• Greet customers warmly, exchange names, and ensure they know what to expect.
• Attract new customers, ask open-ended questions to explore their needs, and reinforce their final selections.
• Address and resolve customer issues, ensuring satisfaction and exceeding expectations.
• Perform work accurately and thoroughly utilizing all technology despite time pressure and patient volume.
• Demonstrate superior product knowledge, accurately describe the features and benefits of various lenses and frames and strive to achieve exceptional results.
• Measure patients for precise eyeglass fitting, including bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, and pupillary distance.
• Manage inventory, track sales, order new frames, lenses, and other optical supplies, and maintain accurate patient records.

Dispensing Optician Secondary Duties:

• Sell optical products including spectacles, contact lenses, sunglasses, and related accessories.
• Assist patients in choosing frames that suit their prescription, facial features, and personal style.
• Help customers select lens treatments such as tints, anti-reflective coatings, and specialty eyewear for occupational or sports use.

Dispensing Optician Education & Experience:

• ABO Certification or related field certification (preferred).
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2 years of experience in optical dispensing or a related field (preferred).
• Experience with frame adjustments, repairs, and patient measurements.
