Job Summary:
An Ophthalmic Technician assists optometrist in providing eye care services to patients. This role involves conducting vision tests, collecting patient histories, preparing patients for procedures, and maintaining ophthalmic instruments. The technician ensures high-quality patient care and supports the clinical team in diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. This role will require front desk duties as well.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Interaction:
- Greet and prepare patients for examination.
- Obtain and record patient medical and ocular history.
- Explain testing procedures to patients.
- Clinical Duties:
- Perform preliminary eye function tests (e.g., visual acuity, color vision, visual field).
- Measure intraocular pressure (tonometry).
- Conduct refraction assessments under supervision.
- Assist with diagnostic tests like OCT, fundus photography, and corneal topography.
- Administer eye drops or ointments as prescribed.
- Assisting the Optometrist
- Set up instruments and supplies for examinations.
- Document examination results and physician findings.
- Equipment & Maintenance:
- Calibrate and maintain ophthalmic instruments.
- Ensure cleanliness and readiness of equipment and rooms.
- Administrative Tasks:
- Schedule appointments and manage patient records.
- Maintain inventory of clinical supplies.
- Comply with clinic policies and medical standards.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a certified ophthalmic technician program (preferred).
- Certification:
- Certification by JCAHPO (e.g., COA, COT) is advantageous.
- Experience:
- 1–2 years in a clinical or ophthalmic setting preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer and EMR software knowledge.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment:

- Regular use of specialized equipment.
- May require standing for extended periods and handling delicate instruments.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.60 - $20.34 per hour
