Job Summary: The Assistant Child Care Director supports the leadership and administration of Vision House’s childcare center, assisting with program planning, health and safety protocols, staff hiring, and supervision. In the absence of the Director, the Assistant Child Care Director assumes full responsibility for the center’s operations.
REPORTS TO: Childcare Director
HOURS: 40 hours, non-exempt position, (Monday-Friday), some evenings and special events
LOCATION: Shoreline, WA

- Starting Pay: $28.00-$31.00 per hour DOE
- $500 hiring bonus

As an Assistant Child Care Director, you will:
- Assist with overall administration, planning, and enrollment processes for the childcare program.
- Help plan and implement curriculum activities and programs that meet state standards and promote community and family involvement.
- Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate practices in Early Childhood Education, fostering cultural respect and teaching children about Jesus.
- Lead in curriculum development and guide staff in implementing classroom curricula in collaboration with the Director.
- Assist with the interviewing and hiring process for new staff as needed.
- Provide staff orientation and ongoing in-service training on program policies and expectations.
- Assist with scheduling regular staff meetings and developing work schedules for childcare staff.
- Collaborate closely with the Director to observe, evaluate, train, and review staff performance.
- Assume full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the center in the absence of the Child Care Director.
- Support the Director in managing the center’s budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring resource allocation aligns with program needs.
- Coordinate parent communication strategies, including organizing parent meetings and addressing any concerns or inquiries in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Assistant Child Care Director candidates should have the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field required; an Associate’s degree will be considered with additional experience.
- Strong knowledge of child development, evidenced by education, professional references, and work experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of qualifying professional experience working with young children, preferably in a childcare setting.
- Demonstrated leadership and team-building skills, with proven management and supervisory experience.
- Ability to work effectively with culturally diverse children and families.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Washington State driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance.
- Ability to sign Vision House’s Statement of Faith.
- Proficiency in using childcare management software, such as Brightwheel, for enrollment and billing processes.
- Experience in conflict resolution and handling sensitive situations with parents, staff, or children.
- Ability to manage health and safety protocols in alignment with state and federal regulations, ensuring compliance across the center.
Physical Demands/Work Requirements:
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds properly.
- Ability to assume postures in low level positions that best allow physical and visual contact with children.
- Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and children's well-being.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends for parent meetings, special events, or emergencies.
