Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the optometric practice by providing exceptional patient care and assisting with various clinical and administrative tasks. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and assist patients as they arrive for appointments
  • Conduct preliminary tests, including: auto-refractor and retinal imaging
  • Utilize electronic health record systems for managing patient information.
  • Collaborate with the optometrist during examinations and procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared.
  • Provide support in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the office and examination areas.
  • Conduct insertion & removal of contact lenses.
  • Educate patients on eyewear options, including retail sales of glasses and contact lenses.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an optometric or ophthalmic assistant is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity with medical billing processes and retail math is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record systems; experience with Epic is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of vital signs measurement techniques is beneficial.
  • A passion for helping others and contributing positively to patient care experiences.
