Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the optometric practice by providing exceptional patient care and assisting with various clinical and administrative tasks. This position requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients as they arrive for appointments
- Conduct preliminary tests, including: auto-refractor and retinal imaging
- Utilize electronic health record systems for managing patient information.
- Collaborate with the optometrist during examinations and procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment is prepared.
- Provide support in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the office and examination areas.
- Conduct insertion & removal of contact lenses.
- Educate patients on eyewear options, including retail sales of glasses and contact lenses.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an optometric or ophthalmic assistant is preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with medical billing processes and retail math is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients and team members.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record systems; experience with Epic is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Knowledge of vital signs measurement techniques is beneficial.
- A passion for helping others and contributing positively to patient care experiences.
