What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bus Monitor/ Van Assistant position at VISION TRANSPORTATION?

Work out of one of our offices located in either Big Lake, Elk River, Rogers, Zimmerman, or St. Michael-Albertville. We are currently looking for reliable assistants to join our team!
Assisting bus and van drivers is a meaningful way to serve your community and positively impact students’ lives every day. We are looking for kind, reliable, and safety conscious people with a passion for helping kids from all backgrounds and abilities.
Hours range from 15–30 hours a week. Candidates must be available Monday–Friday and route times are approximately:
· Morning routes start around 5am–6:30am
· Midday routes start around 11am
· Afternoon routes start around 1:30pm–2pm
This is a consistent part-time position requiring daily attendance.

Responsibilities
Ride along with the bus/van driver and proactively and attentively assist special needs students with loading/unloading; maintain proficiency in the safe operation of securing car seats, booster seats, seat belts, and harnesses
Assist with implementing individual student plans, and managing student behaviors while in transport between schools and student stops as recommended by Vision, route paperwork, and school districts
Maintain proficiency in the safe operation of the hydraulic lift apparatus and securing wheelchairs as applicable
Attend all required training and safety meetings
Demonstrates professional, respectful, safe, and responsible behavior at all times and while communicating with staff, school personnel, parents, and students
Assist in maintaining a clean vehicle
All other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements
- Climbing on and off a bus or van, bending, twisting, and squatting to assist students as needed, sitting for extended periods, walking up and down the bus aisle to check students, seats, and exits
- Will require some periods of exposure to elements
- Capable of assisting and moving students whose mobility is impaired and any student as necessary.
- Ability to lift minimum of 50 pounds
Must Have:
Valid MN driver’s license or MN ID
High school diploma or equivalent
Be 18 years of age or older
Preferred:
Experience with kids
Promotion opportunities available: Van Driver positions and paid training to get CDL to become a Bus Driver or a Trip Driver.
