Job Description
This position is responsible for overseeing the management of complex Outside Plant (OSP) projects that involve the design and implementation of new and existing fiber deployments. This includes tasks such as placing poles, installing fiber, laying conduit, and handling other OSP facilities related to transportation initiatives. The role entails identifying and leading the resolution of problems and facilitating cross-training opportunities to enhance service for our customers. The applicant is expected to demonstrate advanced knowledge and proficiency in managing and maintaining OSP infrastructure and its associated support services.
The applicant must be willing and available to perform duties as required, which may include working nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime hours as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the management of complex OSP projects that involve the design and implementation of fiber deployments, including placing poles, fiber, conduit, and other OSP facilities for transportation initiatives.
- Create and execute plans related to Metro OSP infrastructure and all associated components.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, including overseeing outside vendors and subcontractors, as well as managing the financial aspects and payment processes of the project.
- Clearly explain the scope of work to contractors, outline expectations and requirements, and supervise each step of the construction process.
- Review facility placements in the field, compare them to engineering design specifications, approve or deny change orders, and authorize invoice payments to contractors.
- Assist in defining, writing, and implementing standards and procedures for various IT/OSP technologies.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide updates to senior executives and maintain detailed oversight of assigned tasks.
- Collaborate with the team to develop plans and drive key business strategies that enhance customer service, streamline processes, and achieve financial objectives.
- Identify and address gaps in service policies, practices, and procedures, and document them accordingly.
- Participate in the bidding and evaluation process for proposals related to OSP projects.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Any combination of education and experience that would prepare the applicant to perform the duties of the position at the appropriate level.
- Typically, a candidate would have at least 6 years of thorough experience in OSP services, with demonstrated expertise in fiber deployments, vendor management, and project management. Successful candidates will also be able to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences and have the capability to analyze complex information to solve challenging problems.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Extensive experience in technical team management and development.
- Strong background in OSP operations, including construction standards and utility coordination processes.
- Knowledge of the Nashville Electric and AT&T pole attachment process or a similar process in another market.
- Understanding of fiber deployment technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
