Fiber Infrastructure Technician
Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Fiber Infrastructure Technician. This full-time, hourly position will join the Operations team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region. The position can be based out of Visionary’s Cheyenne, WY office.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- New builds – mark on the prints and ground where the fiber footprint is to be placed, mapping out all aspects of the build (fiber, flower pots, pedestals and cabinets)
- During builds complete quality control checks of the work to ensure it is being completed to the appropriate standards.
- Verify any changes/additions to build and document these changes within Mergin Maps and with the necessary departments.
- Certify that a build is complete and ready to be installed, by completing quality checks on the infrastructure and at each property.
- Represent Visionary Broadband in a professional manner while making repairs and upgrades on fiber infrastructure, fiber enclosures and Visionary building sites.
- Examine and replace faulty and /or old fiber cables through use of testing equipment.
- Resolve, repair and install fiber optics infrastructure, ensuring they work properly.
- Organize scheduled maintenance routines for outside plant.
- Possess integrity and a dedication to results, must be self-driven and have good problem solving skills.
- Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts, including company and branch employees, managers, and outside vendors.
- Interact with customers, landowners and supervision over the phone and in person
Qualifications:
A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:
- Must have 1-3 years experience working with fiber infrastructure and fiber maintenance
- Must be able to physically lift up to 50 pounds
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, is necessary
- Must have a valid driver license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle
- Must be able handle and climb a ladder
- Must be willing to travel within the region 30-50% of the time
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements:
This position requires working in an office setting, driving to job sites, working outside in open weather conditions, climbing, stooping, bending and other physical requirements.
60% / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field with various weather conditions, as well as occasional lifting and / or carrying and / or pushing / pulling of items less than 25lbs.
Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
