Position Overview
The 2nd Shift Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the effective day-to-day technical and production operations of the shift. Key duties include overseeing mold changes, setups, and minimizing downtime and scrap. The role involves training technical and production staff, managing equipment/tooling damage, and collaborating with Maintenance and Tool Room Coordinators on improvements. The Coordinator will drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, and manage work orders through the COGS System.
Key Responsibilities
- Reduce scrap and improve cycle time and machine efficiency.
- Lead corrective actions and resolve customer complaints using 8D methodology.
- Monitor and verify molding parameters and cycle sheet updates.
- Oversee mold changes, setups, and ensure mold cleaning before changes.
- Report and manage equipment and tooling damage using the COGS system.
- Conduct performance evaluations and resolve issues related to technical and production staff.
- Ensure optimal use of technical and production labor, managing unscheduled absences and coordinating PTO.
- Coordinate initial and ongoing training for technical and production teams.
- Participate in new product and process launches, coordinating with quality leaders and champions.
- Complete handoffs and prepare shift rundown for the incoming team.
- Maintain housekeeping and organization of the facility.
- Suggest continuous improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and labor usage.
- Assist on the floor as needed, including during breaks.
Minimum Qualifications
- 2-4 years of experience in plastic processing.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completed training in material handling and operator functions.
- Strong working knowledge of automated equipment and material handling responsibilities.
- 1-2 years of quality control experience or completed quality leader training.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, lead, and develop staff.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of interacting across all organizational levels.
