What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ophthalmic (Ophthalmology) Surgical Coordinator position at Visionary Ophthalmology?
Job Summary: We are seeking a bilingual (Spanish/English) Ophthalmic Surgical Coordinator (OCS), to effectively communicate with a diverse patient population primarily for our Rockville office. Training will take place in our Rockville office. The OCS assists the patient with all pre-operative preparations to promote patient confidence in their medical care and make the surgical experience as smooth as possible. Acts as a liaison between the office, surgical facility, patient, primary care physician, or other medical offices. They will provide prospective vision correction surgery patients with education, counseling, and scheduling services. Services include all types of refractive lasers, IOL surgery, other procedures, and technical expertise in testing for these procedures. Counseling and support will be provided via telephone and during clinic visits to prospective patients inquiring about vision correction surgery. This position is responsible for assessing patient needs, providing education and financial counseling, following up, and promoting the surgery division.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least two to five years of work experience in a healthcare setting
- Two or more years of surgical or scheduling coordinator experience required (Ophthalmology preferred)
- Ability to work under pressure and complete assigned tasks under stressful situations
- Ability to communicate effectively with others and use good listening skills
- Ability to pay attention to details
- Ability to make decisions or take action to solve a problem or reach a goal
- Organizational skills and following a systematic method of performing a task
- Strong time management skills
- Strong analytical skills
Responsibilities
- Main conduit of information between the patient, the practice, primary care, and other physicians involved in the care of the patient, insurance carrier, and the surgical facility throughout the surgery process.
- Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
- Educate patients about available resources and what to expect during their visit.
- Receives, responds to, and directs patient communications, including phone calls, emails, and faxes.
- Coordinates necessary documentation for surgical procedures and gathers needed medical information, such as records and ancillary tests, to assist in coordinating patient care.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
