Job Overview : We are seeking a full-time Ophthalmology Scribe with 2 to 3 years of experience (required) for a busy practice in the metropolitan area. This individual is responsible for providing accurate documentation and summarization of the ocular examination and recommendations while maintaining patient flow and communication regarding appointment status. The primary goal of the ophthalmic scribe is to increase the efficiency and productivity of the physician in the clinic setting. The scribe must be able to anticipate physician needs, communicate clearly to patients and staff members, and effectively multitask to facilitate clinic flow.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Record interactions : Accompany the provider during patient visits and record information into the electronic health record (EHR).
- Accurately and thoroughly document ophthalmic exams and procedures as they are being performed by the physician.
- List all appropriate diagnoses and symptoms, as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as directed by the physician.
- Update patient information : Keep patient histories current and ensure that charts are accurate.
- Assist with administrative : Handle phone calls, handle medication queries, retrieve lab reports, and fill out paperwork.
- Provide patient support : As directed by the physician, instruct patients and / or family members on self-care and follow-up.
- Perform other duties and assume various responsibilities determined by the office manager, team lead, and doctor(s).
