Position Overview : The On-Premises Systems Migration Specialist will be responsible for leading the migration of on-premises systems to the AWS cloud. This role is critical in enhancing the agency’s security and management capabilities by transitioning internal systems into AWS which is integrated with the agency’s Zero Trust Architecture. The successful candidate will collaborate with developers to identify candidate systems, develop migration and testing plans, oversee the migration process, and coordinate with externally hosted system owners to encourage similar migrations.
Key Responsibilities :
- Identification of Migration Candidates :
Conduct a thorough assessment of remaining on-premises applications to identify systems that are suitable candidates for cloud migration.
Collaborate with developers to determine the most appropriate cloud deployment model (e.g., IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) for each candidate system, considering factors such as performance, scalability, and cost.
Create detailed implementation and testing plans for each candidate system, outlining the steps necessary for a successful migration to AWS.
Lead and oversee the migration of selected on-premises applications to the AWS cloud, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
Engage with owners of externally hosted systems to assess their current infrastructure and encourage migration to AWS.
Qualifications :
Minimum of 8 years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud computing, or systems engineering, with a focus on cloud migration projects.
Strong understanding of cloud computing principles, AWS services, and cloud deployment models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS).
