Job Summary
As a Construction Estimator, you will be a vital member of the pre-construction team, contributing to the planning and budgeting process of our projects. Your main responsibility will be to prepare both preliminary budget forecasts and detailed cost estimates, primarily based on conceptual or preliminary design drawings, which may lack detailed specifications. You will focus on estimating commercial remodeling and high-end residential renovation and alteration projects, not just new builds. Drawing on your project management experience and a deep understanding of the unique challenges in remodeling/renovation work, you will ensure accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in the estimation process, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver reliable and precise solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop accurate and detailed preliminary budget estimates for both commercial and residential remodeling projects, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Prepare comprehensive cost estimates, encompassing labor, materials, overhead, and other key project factors.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to gather critical information and ensure estimates are precise and reflective of project needs.
- Accountable for creating and defining detailed subcontractor scopes of work, ensuring clarity and alignment with project objectives and specifications.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other project documentation to create thorough time, cost, and labor estimates that support successful project execution.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, providing regular updates and proactive recommendations to both management and clients to keep projects on track.
- Conduct on-site visits to assess project scope, identify requirements, and verify field conditions, ensuring accurate and realistic estimates.
- Maintain meticulous and organized records of all estimates, project documentation, and correspondence for future reference and auditing.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of bid proposals, ensuring they are professionally delivered and tailored to meet client needs and expectations.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, Ability and Other Characteristics:
A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Technology, Engineering or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience as a construction estimator, or Project Manager specializing in commercial remodeling and high-end residential projects.
- Proven project management expertise, with a demonstrated ability to lead, coordinate, and manage multiple complex projects concurrently.
- Strong analytical acumen and exceptional attention to detail, ensuring precise and reliable cost estimates.
- Proficiency in a range of estimating software, as well as Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Teams, OneNote, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Expertise in construction management tools such as ProCore, material takeoff software like PlanSwift, and UDA Construction Online Estimating.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with clients, team members, and subcontractors.
- Capacity to work autonomously, as well as a collaborative team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Acrobat and Bluebeam Revu for document management, markup, and project review.
- Demonstrate interpersonal and presentation skills for frequent contact with clients and co-workers.
- Highly developed problem solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
