What are the responsibilities and job description for the Guest Services Specialist position at Visit Madison, Inc,?
Visit Madison Indiana is seeking Guests Services staff to activate a personal presence at the Main Street Station satellite Visitor’s Center. Guest Services staff supports Visit Madison’s role of destination marketing and visitor services by providing a welcoming presence and helpful information about the community, as well as acting as a gift shop sales attendant.
Key Expectations & Responsibilities:
- The Guest Services Staff top priority is to provide positive experiences for Jefferson County and Madison visitors and residents and encourages extended or repeat visitation.
- Serves as an effective role model in action and word for the Visit Madison mission. Represents a positive, enthusiastic, and professional manner and maintains an appropriate public image.
- Remains up to date on best practices and current events on Madison’s calendar.
- Communicates effectively; able to work well with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Greet visitors and help them find information. Determine visitor interests and suggest suitable attractions, dining, lodging, and shopping to create a superb experience and to increase visitor spending and room nights.
- Maintain inventory and organize brochures and printed materials to ensure we have ample supply available to visitors while maintaining a neatly organized display area.
- Act as a cashier for gift shop items and keep gift shop stock organized and presentable.
- Maintain general cleanliness of the visitor center by performing light custodial duties.
- Actively collect visitor contact information to be used in marketing efforts. Enter data in spreadsheet.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, storytelling and written communication skills
- A friendly, engaging personality who is able to listen first and provide recommendations for visitors based on their preferences.
- In-depth working knowledge of Madison and Jefferson County, Indiana, regional visitor attributes, programs, and services, as well as of hotels, restaurants, attractions, and local history.
- General knowledge of office equipment, including: Email, Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel), and internet browser programs
- Ability to give directions using map (both physical and Google Maps)
- Must be fluent in English
- Ability to work unsupervised
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as required
- Use website searches and social media platforms to assist customers
- Cashier/Point of Sale (POS) system experience a plus
