Visit Madison is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable individuals to join our team as Tour Guides in Madison, Indiana. Tour Guides will provide engaging, informative, and entertaining tours that showcase the rich history, architecture, and cultural heritage of our charming river town. This role is ideal for those who love storytelling, history, and interacting with people from all walks of life. Tour guide positions will most likely be on the new Madison Trolleys, but opportunities to lead Walking Tours or be step-on guides for Coach buses are possible too. Tour guides will be trained on a script, although we are always interested in people who love history and want to create new tours!
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead walking and/or trolley tours through historic Madison, Indiana.
- Deliver engaging narratives about the city’s history, architecture, notable figures, and attractions.
- Provide excellent customer service to all guests, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience.
- Answer questions and offer recommendations for other local attractions, dining, and shopping.
- Adapt content & style to accommodate groups including families, history enthusiasts, & casual tourists.
- Assist with boarding and seating on trolley tours when necessary.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of tour participants at all times.
- Maintain knowledge of current events, developments, and changes in Madison’s tourism landscape.
- Collaborate with local businesses, museums, and historical organizations to enhance tour experiences.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to speak clearly and project your voice in outdoor settings.
- Comfortable leading groups of various sizes and backgrounds.
- Punctual, reliable, and professional.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, education, or performance is a plus.
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred but not required).
- Knowledge of Madison, Indiana, or willingness to learn extensively about the area.
- Ability to walk, stand, and/or sit for long periods of time.
