Position Summary:
The 8th Grade ELA Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. This teacher will foster critical thinking, literary analysis, and strong communication skills, preparing students for high school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement daily lesson plans aligned to state standards and school curriculum
- Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, vocabulary development, grammar, and writing composition
- Incorporate a range of texts including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama
- Prepare students for standardized assessments and high school English courses
- Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and provide feedback
- Maintain an inclusive, student-centered classroom environment that supports all learners
- Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress
- Collaborate with grade-level and content-area colleagues
- Participate in professional development and school events
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field (Master’s preferred)
- Valid teaching certification in ELA (grades 6–8 or 5–9)
- Minimum 1–2 years of middle school teaching experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy, writing instruction, and classroom management
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education
