Job Summary
The Clinical Educator works closely with the Human Resources and Clinical departments to develop and deliver orientation programs for Home Health and Hospice employees, ensuring that employees have the necessary knowledge, skills, and competency to provide safe, quality patient care. This role ensures adherence to regulations, agency policies, and standards while identifying ongoing education needs and implementing in-service programs to meet regulatory requirements.
Primary Responsibilities:
Orientation
- Provide clinical orientation for Home Health and Hospice clinical employees, including education on agency policies and procedures, Medicare regulations, electronic medical record (EMR) systems, documentation requirements, OASIS/HIS training, and competency evaluations.
- Develop individualized clinical orientation programs for new hires.
- Collaborate with clinical preceptors to monitor employee progress toward independence during the orientation period.
- Work with clinical leaders to adjust orientation schedules based on employee progress.
- Maintain orientation documentation and submit completed orientation checklists for employee personnel records.
- Develop and implement an annual process for assessing the knowledge and skills of Home Health (HH) and Hospice nursing clinicians.
- Design a comprehensive education and training plan based on assessment results to address identified needs and promote professional growth.
- Utilize a variety of resources, tools, and instructional methods to deliver effective training programs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives, making adjustments as needed to ensure continuous improvement and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to identify ongoing educational priorities and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
In-Service Education
- Develop and implement an annual in-service education calendar for monthly Hospice and Home Health Aide education, ensuring compliance with Medicare requirements.
- Provide education as required by federal/state regulations and agency policies.
- Assess and address ongoing education needs within the clinical department.
- Update employee assignments in Medbridge as necessary.
- Generate Medbridge reports to monitor employee completion of assignments and communicate any non-compliance to leadership.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Provide backup support for OASIS documentation and ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Assist during periods when QAPI is out to maintain program continuity.
- Support clinical operations during increases in Home Health volumes.
- Maintain knowledge of Home Health and Hospice regulatory requirements and provide related education when changes occur.
- Stay current with EMR updates and deliver necessary training to employees.
- Act as a resource for documentation issues within the EMR system.
- Participate in QAPI committee meetings.
- Assist with community education initiatives as needed.
- Participate in administrative on-call duties.
- Provide backup support to Clinical Managers as needed.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Mobility: Ability to travel between office locations and clinical sites.
- Lifting: Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
- Transportation: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance required.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with active state licensure required.
- Previous experience in clinical education, staff development, or related roles preferred.
- Knowledge of Home Health and Hospice regulations, including OASIS and HIS documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR systems.
