Job Description: Cloud-to-On-Prem Migration Specialist (AWS EC2 & Kubernetes to VMware)
Position Overview
The Cloud-to-On-Prem Migration Specialist is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing the migration of workloads and applications from AWS EC2 and Kubernetes environments to an on-premises VMware infrastructure within a datacenter. This role requires deep expertise in cloud platforms, container orchestration, virtualization technologies, and data center operations, ensuring a secure, efficient, and minimal-downtime migration process.
Key Responsibilities
· Assess existing AWS EC2 and Kubernetes environments for migration readiness, including inventorying applications, dependencies, and data flows.
· Develop comprehensive migration strategies and detailed project plans for transitioning workloads from cloud to on-prem VMware infrastructure.
· Execute the migration process, including:
· Designing target VMware vSphere architectures to support migrated workloads.
· Coordinating the export and transformation of EC2 instances and Kubernetes resources for compatibility with VMware.
· Managing the migration of containerized applications, persistent storage, and networking configurations.
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams (network, security, storage, application owners) to ensure seamless integration and minimal disruption.
· Configure and optimize VMware environments to meet performance, security, and compliance requirements.
· Conduct rigorous testing and validation of migrated workloads to ensure operational continuity and data integrity.
· Provide detailed documentation, training, and post-migration support to internal teams.
· Identify and mitigate risks throughout the migration lifecycle, including security vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
Required Skills and Qualifications
· Proven experience with AWS EC2, Kubernetes (EKS or self-managed), and on-premises VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi).
· Strong background in virtualization, container orchestration, and cloud-to-on-prem migration methodologies.
· Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python) for migration and deployment tasks.
· Experience with network configuration, storage technologies (DAS, NAS, SAN), and data center operations.
· Excellent troubleshooting, project management, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience.
· Certifications in AWS, Kubernetes, and VMware technologies.
· Experience with large-scale data center migrations, consolidations, or relocations.
