Overview:
As a Fiber Construction Manager at Vistabeam, you will be responsible for overseeing and directing fiber optic infrastructure projects from conception through completion. You will work closely with design engineers, contractors, and cross-functional teams within the organization to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality completion of all construction activities related to fiber optic network deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, direct, and coordinate fiber construction projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Supervise and manage project managers, employees, and contractors to ensure adherence to safety standards, technical specifications, and quality workmanship.
- Collaborate with engineering and planning teams to review project plans and drawings, providing expertise in the constructability of fiber networks.
- Develop and implement procurement strategies for fiber optic materials and construction equipment, ensuring alignment with project budgets and timelines.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to negotiate contracts and secure the best prices for materials and equipment, maintaining quality standards.
- Oversee the receipt, inspection, storage, and distribution of all construction materials to ensure availability and readiness at project sites.
- Implement inventory control systems to track material usage, reduce waste, and ensure replenishment processes are efficient and timely.
- Collaborate with the finance and logistics departments to forecast material needs and budget implications based on project schedules.
- Manage relationships with suppliers to handle returns, replacements, and any disputes arising from material defects or delivery issues.
- Regularly review material and equipment specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards and technological advancements.
- Prepare and submit purchase orders and inventory reports, maintaining accurate records for audit purposes and regulatory compliance.
- Manage project scopes, timelines, and resources effectively; adjust project plans and resources as necessary to meet changing needs and requirements.
- Conduct site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Resolve field construction issues and conflicts that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Maintain detailed and accurate project documentation, including construction progress reports, budget tracking, and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Communicate regularly with stakeholders and company leadership on project status, risks, and completion forecasts.
- Develop and implement risk management policies and procedures to minimize project risks.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior construction staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement within the construction team.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction management, specifically with fiber optic or telecommunications network projects.
- Strong understanding of civil construction processes, fiber optic cable deployment techniques, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools (e.g., Render, Ocius-X, Vetro).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under tight deadlines.
- PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to travel to multiple job sites within the region.
- Capable of physical activities such as walking, standing, and climbing.
- Operate a forklift or tow trailer when necessary.
