Vistra seeks a Communication Strategist (Intermediate Level) to provide communications support to the Department of the Army’s Office of the Chief of Public Affairs (OCPA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Public Affairs, ensuring accurate and timely dissemination of information on high-profile and sensitive issues. This role involves strategic communication, content creation, media relations, and providing expert guidance on the Army’s communication objectives.
Strategic Communications Support:
- Deliver a wide range of public affairs and strategic communications tasks with minimal supervision.
- Produce strategic communication products, reports, presentations, and other deliverables to support the Army’s goals.
- Translate complex bureaucratic information into clear, plain language for target audiences.
- Write weekly messaging documents for review by senior officials, adapting language and tone to meet organizational needs.
Content Development & Editing:
- Develop, write, and edit presentations, briefings, speeches, social media content, and press releases.
- Apply Associated Press (AP) and Modern Language Association (MLA) styles as appropriate.
- Gather and organize relevant communication information from various sources to ensure comprehensive coverage of topics.
Media and Digital Engagement:
- Develop and implement digital media promotion plans, including content creation, copy, design, and ad placement for enhanced engagement.
- Expand outreach to the American public and DoD community through targeted media strategies and social media communications.
- Monitor public and media sentiment, adjusting communication tactics to optimize reach and engagement.
Strategic Planning & Technical Direction:
- Provide technical guidance in the planning and implementation of strategic communications plans.
- Develop and execute public affairs programs that include messaging, planning, media relations, and event coordination.
- Identify communication needs through theoretical research, offering insights to improve communication effectiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting:
- Organize and present findings, recommendations, and strategic insights to managers and senior leadership.
- Prepare detailed briefings, testimony, and reports to inform Army and DoD leadership on public affairs strategies.
- Report on metrics-based outcomes, such as reach, engagement, and sentiment, to assess the impact of communication efforts.
Additional Duties:
- Conduct all other duties as assigned to support the Army’s public affairs mission and advance strategic objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 5 years demonstrated strategic/tactical/media communication level experience within the last 10 years. Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills.
- Familiarity with AP and MLA style guides.
- Ability to simplify complex content and develop impactful communication materials.
- Experience with social media, media relations, and public engagement strategies.
- Proven ability to provide guidance and leadership on high-visibility public affairs matters in a fast-paced environment.
