Job Title: Kitchen/Floater
Department: Arthurtown Child Development Center
Reports To: Child Care Center Director
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Hours: 8 hours between 7:30am - 3:30pm Monday – Friday.
Position Summary:
The Kitchen/Floater is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Child Care Center Kitchen.
The Kitchen/Floater will be responsible for serving meals and snacks to the classroom ready for family style meal service and suitable for the children’s age and development. The position requires organization skills, problem solving, record keeping and time management. In addition, the Floater portion of this position will assist the classroom teacher in maintaining the safety and well-being of the children based on the philosophy of the National Association of the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and Early Head Start Performance Standards.
Education requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent certificate (GED) or
Infant/Toddler Child Development Credential (preferable) or equivalent
General knowledge in child food service preparation and management.
Knowledge of CACFP requirements desirable. Effective written and communication skills.
Essential Function(s) Duties and Responsibilities:
Job Duties:
1. Prepares meals and snacks to be delivered from the kitchen to the classrooms ready to be served as suitable for the children’s age and development.
2. Serves meals according to the posted menu and plans ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions.
3. With guidance from the Center Director and Health Manager modifies meals and snacks to meet the needs of infants and toddlers and the medical and feeding needs of children with disabilities or food allergies.
4. Maintains established standards of sanitation, safety and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments; maintains an orderly, sanitary, and safe kitchen.
5. Assures the proper care and maintenance of all food service equipment and identifies kitchen supply needs for food preparation.
6. Assists the classroom teacher to guide and facilitate daily activities for children as assigned by the Center Director or other VCM Administrators.
7. Assists children with personal hygiene needs to include diapering and handwashing self-help skills and dental care.
8. Cooperate with other staff to maintain the smooth functioning of the center, which at times may require changes in schedules to meet the needs of the children.
9. Establishes and maintains a safe, clean, and healthy learning environment; complete monitoring checklist, CACFP daily checklist –reporting safety concerns to the Director.
10. Complete Accident/Incident reports as needed and follow appropriate procedures.
11. Attend staff training, staff meetings, center pre-service and in-service trainings.
12. Participates in all emergency drills.
13. Performs other duties, as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
Due to the nature of the job responsibilities, as times the Kitchen/Floater must be physically capable of standing for extended periods of time, able to supervise children and actively involved while sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending. Ability to lift children up to 30 pounds.
