Job Summary:
Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining grain elevator facilities and related machinery to ensure their efficient and safe operation. They work closely with other facility personnel to prevent downtime and ensure the quality of stored grain.
Job Responsibilities:
· Regularly inspect grain elevator equipment, including conveyors, augers, belts, motors, bearings, and other mechanical components, to identify signs of wear, damage, or malfunction.
· Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks, such as lubrication, cleaning, and adjustments, and conduct necessary repairs to keep equipment in optimal working condition.
· Repair and assist in repairs of equipment and machinery. This may include welding, electrical work, and mechanical repairs.
· Ensure that all equipment and systems comply with EHS regulations and guidelines.
· Successfully complete required EHS training.
· Identify and address potential safety hazards promptly, including reporting incidents and near misses.
· Respond to equipment breakdowns or emergencies promptly. Troubleshoot issues and take corrective actions to minimize downtime.
· Maintain an inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for maintenance and repairs. Work with facility management to order replacements as needed.
· Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and replacements. Document equipment manuals, schematics, and other technical information.
· Collaborate with grain elevator operators/technicians, supervisors, and other facility personnel to coordinate maintenance schedules and prioritize tasks.
· Ensure that environmental systems, such as dust collection and ventilation systems, are functioning correctly and comply with environmental regulations.
· All other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years’ experience as a millwright, maintenance tech, or similar role.
- Technical training or certification in maintenance, such as industrial maintenance technology or similar field, is preferred.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, mechanical systems, and welding techniques – strong skills in fabrication and welding required.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
- Steel-toed or sturdy leather boots are required on the job site.
- Valid driver’s license and means of transportation to commute to/from work and between job sites.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and evenings, especially during peak harvest seasons.
Special Demands:
· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
· Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands, kneel, and bend.
· Exposure to moderate to loud noise within the work environment.
· Exposure to heavy concentrations of grain dust.
· Ability to frequently move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
· Ability to frequently wear personal protective equipment correctly, including respirators, fall protection, safety glasses, hard hat, etc.
· Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
· Ability to comfortably work at heights of approximately 200 ft.
· Ability to work in outdoor work environment, including various climates, weather conditions, and inclement weather, approximately 80% of the time.
· Ability to perform all job responsibilities with necessary special demands for up to 8 hours per day.
