Vitol’s Tax team is comprised of high-achieving individuals who have a proven track record of expanding their value-added impact far more broadly than a traditional tax role would allow. In addition to managing the US and Canadian federal, state, and provincial tax compliance of the North American Vitol entities, they provide expert tax guidance to management, commercial, and other relevant teams. The Indirect Tax team serves a vital role in the Vitol organization as they are responsible for guiding and managing all of the indirect tax aspects of our trading and renewable asset companies. Through this role you will gain exposure to Vitol’s core trading business and renewables (wind/solar/renewable natural gas/etc.) businesses. - Use tools such as Alteryx to automate and create efficient processes for the indirect tax function
- Interface with commercial teams, operations and accounting to analyze and ensure transaction activity is properly reported to various federal, state, and local taxing agencies
- Prepare sales and use tax, property tax, motor fuel, and excise tax returns for various Vitol entities operating in the US and Canada
- Prepare associated journal entries and monthly account reconciliations
- Maintain appropriate and referenced documentation to support tax return filings
- Develop and implement system processes to ensure efficient capturing and analysis of data
- Determine the taxable status of customers and ensure system and internal groups are apprised for invoicing needs and request appropriate exemptions/documentation when required
- Evaluate licensing requirements for Vitol entities and maintain as appropriate along with surety bonds as needed
- Monitor and research tax regulations and rulings, determine statutory, regulatory or interpretive basis for liability, exemption, etc. and communicate with internal clients and external customers
- Communicate clearly and concisely for inquiries from counterparties as well as those from auditors or governmental agencies

- 4 years of experience in the petroleum and/or renewables industry, with significant emphasis on sales and use tax. Experience in property tax, motor fuel and excise tax, or other indirect tax functions is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of state and local sales tax return requirements, filing methodologies, etc.
- Bachelor degree in tax/accounting/business preferred
- Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are required
