Viwinco is in search of a Research and Development Engineer that will provide critical support to the R&D department by assisting with the design, prototyping, and improvement of window systems and related equipment. This role will also support the production team in the development of tools and fixtures aimed at increasing efficiency and improving the overall manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of steel welding, metal fabrication processes, pneumatics, and mechanical systems. This is an extremely hands-on role will work with R&D and Operation’s teams to implement improvements and novel solutions to production challenges.

Primary Responsibilities
- Leads the life-cycle of fixtures, smalls tools, and simple equipment in our production and R&D areas. Uses sound engineering principles to design, develop, procure, build, test, and implement solutions to business challenges.
- Utilize knowledge of welding, metal fabrication, and pneumatics to support the design and creation of mechanical components for both R&D and production use.
- Work closely with the production team to identify needs for custom equipment or modifications to enhance production capabilities.
- Assist in the testing and validation of new components or processes to ensure they meet quality, safety, and performance standards.
- Collaborate with the R&D team to create and revise part drawings, assembly drawings, and technical specifications for window systems and related equipment using AutoCAD and Fusion 360 software packages
- Supports window, door, and component testing, compliance, and certification activities.
- Ensure that all designs and processes comply with industry standards and company safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to part designs, mechanical systems, or equipment in both R&D and production environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including design, engineering, and production to ensure seamless implementation of new products and processes.
- Performs intermediate-level welding, machining (lathe and milling), and carpentry work in support of objectives.
- Models safety standards through the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and good housekeeping. Incorporates safety standards when creating or repairing fixtures, tools, and equipment.
- Occasionally participates in Lean Manufacturing initiatives and programs such as Kaizen events.
- Organize and maintain detailed documentation of designs, modifications, and prototypes.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of related experience in an engineering or R&D support role, preferably in manufacturing or construction materials.
- Strong knowledge of steel welding, metal fabrication, and pneumatic systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Experience in creating detailed technical drawings and assembly instructions.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with window manufacturing processes or related industries (e.g., construction materials, architecture).
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or process improvement methodologies.
- Familiarity with quality control processes and safety standards in industrial environments.
